Not sure if you would consider a guitar pick a gadget, but I get asked about my favorite pick all the time. So here it is in all its glory…
The Dunlop Ultex Sharp 2.0mm pick has been an old standby for me. I love this pick for three distinct reasons:
1.) It’s inexpensive – Yes, I love picks that are more expensive than this one, but the fact of the matter is I lose them… and when you lose a pick that costs you $20 it’s a heartbreaking experience.
2.) It’s durable – These picks are super tough and they break into your style much like a comfy leather boot. Seriously, these picks are strong and develop a nice bevel after about 3 months or so of playing… and once that bevel is there it makes the pick move through the strings like butter.
3.) It’s tone – The sound of these picks is extremely musical and the tone produced is nice and mellow with a good amount of articulation. In my experience, these picks bring out nuances in my guitar that I never thought were there.
The Dunlop Ultex picks come in a variety of shapes and gauges and I would strongly suggest giving them a whirl. In comparison to other tone experiments that you could do with your guitar, this one is easy and pretty cheap.
