There are so many specialty picks out there it is hard to sample them all, but there is one that I have used that made a serious impact on me.
Blue Chip picks, made in Knoxville, TN are truly an artisan flatpick that have a stellar lifespan (as long as you don’t lose them).
These picks are made from a highly specialized, proprietary composite material that is not only very heat and wear resistant, but also is self-lubricating which means the pick releases from the strings very quickly.
These picks have a fantastic impact on the tone and they definitely eliminate some of the drag that you can experience when flatpicking. A geek item that is a must try.
Been using BlueChip picks (specifically the Chris Thile, or “CT 55”) for a few years, and with my Martin I couldn’t ask for a better “traditional” sound. These things are worth the money, and they last forever!
I’m thinking that I should get some swag from TAC simply because I went hunting (more like scrolling and scrolling and loading more and more scrolling) JUST to find a review for these picks, lol!
“They last forever!”, if you don’t lose them. I’m on my third one. I have a bad habit of just shoving my pick in my pocket. I’m working on using the “pick pouch” instead. It is hard breaking a habit I’ve been doing for half a century!
K’ewl!! Good to know. Formerly I had always been on the lookout for just this kind of pick. Now I know what to look for specifically. THANKS!! Ja?
Hey there, Jason! Between you and Tony, I’ve gotta dial up one of these Bluechip picks! You mentioned your Martin and “struck a chord” with me as my two loves are a OM 21 (newer) & HD 28 (20 yrs). I’m anxious to hear how the new pick will sound/feel…
I want to try a thicker Bluechip pick. I have a TD35. I’m just not sure which one would work best. HELP!
Try the Thalia picks–it’s almost like hearing a new set of strings!
