This list of the best acoustic blues albums was incredibly difficult to make. There’s so much great acoustic blues out there! So, I had to leave plenty of great albums off the list.
If you notice that there’s an acoustic blues album that I missed, please let me know in the comments!

You caught that Emerson didn’t have his guitarsenal shirt. Good catch.
Perhaps a bit more modern (recorded live sometime in the early 70’s) but Hot Tuna is an amazing album. I believe it borrows heavily from many in your top 10 and it rises above the electric blues so popular in that era.
Muddy Waters Folk Singer. Fantastic album with Muddy on acoustic guitar backed by Willie Dixon on bass, Clifton James on drums and Buddy guy on acoustic guitar.
Think you missed the great Josh White?
You need to add some:) Sonny Terry & Brownie McGhee, blind Lemon Jefferson, Buddy Guy, Mississippi John Hurt all qualify! In my opinion:)
Great Show!! Love it all, especially the blues list!
Might be a little more modern but Colin James – National Steel is definitely worth a listen
Hi Tony! This is Donna Herula. Great list of the acoustic blues greats! Nice job! I love them all – especially Son House, Robert Johnson and Bukka White. I played Big Bill’s Guitar at the Old Town School too (I’m a guitar teacher there). Hey, what about a list of modern acoustic blues artists or female acoustic blues artists like myself! I’m throwing my hat in the ring! Here’s a song from my new acoustic blues album Bang at the Door that was released in May 2021 and went all the way up to #1 on the Blues Music Chart (Roots Music Report). Would love to talk to you, Tony! Your list is very similar to mine Tony and I would also find places for Blind Blake and Mississippi Fred McDowell.
