#4 Rite Of Passage
Where are you in your guitar journey? It’s not always a clear cut path to where you are and where you are going. But after some reflection on my own journey, I’ve come up with 4 stages that EVERY guitarist may find themselves in. I think you’ll agree that you fall into one-if not more-of these stages.

Hi Tony and Noah,
Thanks for another great episode of Acoustic Tuesday!
I loved it.
Keep it comin’.

Noah, I don’t want to pee on your parade BUT that lip maggot you’re sporting is making you look like a spiv from a 1930’s b&w Humphrey Bogart movie! Now I know you’re a great guy but do you really want to go down the Tony gorilla look? :-))))
Absolutely love every episode and look forward to Tuesdays. Help needed. Just learned some chords. Can you recommend a list of popular acoustic guitar played songs for beginners?
Sebastian, if you join the facebook group, ask the same question and let them know what type of music you like, and maybe even mention the chords you know, I’m sure you will get a long list of tunes that many members have started with. I also use the free Justin Guitar website. It has a beginners programme initially progressing from one chord to three. Once three chords are learnt there are various tunes that can be played. Once you learn another 2 chords it opens up a vast number of tunes (So, A, D, E, G and C). But I’m sure you could find tunes to match the chords you know, on that website.
Edgar Myer i believe is the bass player you couldn’t remember and a fantastic bass player he is.
Just listened to Molly Tuttle album on Google – many thanks for introducing me to her!
You know you are a guitar geek when you hurt your right hand and your wife says “Too bad it wasn’t your left hand since you are right handed”, and you say “No that is my fretting hand but at least I can still pick with my right”.
Tony and Noah, Really enjoy your show. It really helps make my commute tolerable. I think I may be starting to become a guitar geek. I just was visiting colleges with my son this week (KU and Ole Miss). I made sure our trip took us through Nashville just so I could stop in Caters. I also wanted stop in Gruhn’s but there wasn’t enough time. A friend also told me about a cool record shop Ernst Tubbs which I didn’t get to either. Oh well next trip. I didn’t get a guitar but I did get a shirt! https://www.instagram.com/p/BwnYdsSHCvr/?utm_source=ig_share_sheet&igshid=19y0j1xvv99et
Keep it going!

PS Are you guys in the same studio? Noah’s monitor in shot makes for awkward framing. I realize space may be an issue. The mic is a nice touch!

You know you’re a guitar geek when you think Gretsch is known more for guitars than drums, lol. Max Roach? Elvin Jones? Tony Williams? Art Blakey? C’mon Man! Love the show.
Hey, Tony,
Newish TAC member here with 2 #smallwins that I want to share:
Small win number 1: My new Taylor 324ce (named Opie, due to the fabulous reddish tone of the mahogany top). I’ve literally not played any of my electric guitars since giving this instrument its forever home.
Small win number 2: saw Willie Nelson and Tyler Childers at Whitewater Amphitheater here in Texas. One of the most enjoyable nights of music I’ve had in a long time, despite the unseasonably cold winds.
Been digging the show, the lessons and the positive vibe of the show and am trying to binge the backlog as much as I can. Keep up the great work and I’ll see you all next time. #smallwin

#You know you’re a guitar geek when you sit down at 9:00 pm and open a YouTube link to check out a musical group highlighted on “Acoustic Tuesday” An hour later, it’s 1:00 AM, you’ve followed 37 other links, with that last one being Glen Campbell playing “William Tell Overture” on his 12 string Hamer electric while holding it on top of his head.
Tony and Noah,
Enjoyed this episode very much. As one who greatly appreciates the “alchemy” of the Punch Brothers, thanks for turning everyone on to the movie, How to Grow a Band…can’t wait to view it. Tony, I know you have a love for Martin and anything vintage (expensive), but I have always wondered why you do not feature some more approachable guitar companies, i.e. D’Angelico, Eastman or Seagull? Or could it be I have missed them? As these guitars make up the core of my Guitarsenal? Would love to see them reviewed sometime.
Thank you so much for spreading the love of all things Acoustic.
