#4 Three Strumming Patterns Without A Guitar Pick
If you hate using guitar picks then this quick lesson is for you. Some guitar geeks just don’t like guitar picks and that’s ok, but what do you do when you want to strum along to a song? You certainly don’t want to sit the tune out, so in this short video I am going to share with you 3 ways you can strum along to a song without a guitar pick.

#3 What’s On the Turntable This Week?
This week’s featured acoustic artist is The Devil Makes Three who comes recommended to us by Acoustic Tuesday listener Tony F. of Kansas City, MO. Tony says, “I love that they uphold bluegrass and Americana traditions, but add modern lyrical themes. They also have astounding energy live.”

#1 Regal Musical Instruments History Book Review
This would be a great gift for the guitar geek that may quite possibly have everything, BUT I can guarantee you they don’t have this. It’s an encyclopedia of Regal musical instrument knowledge. The tale of Regal Instruments is a fascinating tale. At the end of the book are ads on every Regal Guitar that was produced. The instruments shown in the ads are absolutely stunning.

Good morning gents Nice tee shirt there Tony
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OG__SwkV3wg&t=5s Mark Knopfler has an interesting talk about guitars and also about not using a pick
Hi Tony and Noah from Daniel in sunny Foley, AL. Really enjoy Acoustic Tuesday and your Acoustic Challenge. My favorite bourbon is Jefferson’s Reserve 10 year.
How about using a thumb pick (only) as a pick?
DEar Tony, the voice is only made of muscle and like any muscle it needs exercise. However there is a right and a wrong way to exercise. The man that showed me how to wright song, also taught me “Vocal Therapy”. It is to complicated to go into here, but I would be willing to share this with you and you could offer it to any of your followers that would like to be able to sing perfectly , with ease.Call me at 520 369-8622.
What a great show (as usual, Duh)! There have been times when I wanted to strum without a pick (wife is still sleeping) but wanted to get some clear tone and be able to include some boom-chick-a but never could figure out the proper movement. Thanks to your quick study at the beginning showing this plus the addition of the pinky, I’m in a much better place to “pick” in stealth mode. 😉
Small win, not using a pick without the guilt. I’ve been playing a lot of years, and I’ve never used a pick, and in my older age, I find myself dropping them when I do try to use one. Ugh, embarrassing. Thanks for making it okay, Tony. Love Acoustic Tuesday!
Listening in as we drive between Lincoln Nebraska and North Platt on our way back to Monterey CA on a long road trip. I’m a TAC member and regular listener. My wife who is in no way a guitar geek listened as well and thought the show was quite entertaining.
George Thurogood (sic) is a no picker.

What type (if any ) of “glue on nails” would you suggest? Meaning brand , materials, way of securing to nail etc etc… Iam very green to guitar even after a few yrs of owning and noodling every day . I want to delve into finger picking more intensely , but have type of job that won’t allow me to grow my flimsy nails ,really ,long at all ….any Info and or help would be great …..thanks , Vic
Just discovered Guitar Pickers near me in Scottsdale, AZ. It’s the home of Gerhart Guitars, and they are really nice. Just wondering if you’ve ever played them, or have a review of them.
James Taylor and Derek Trucks both wonderful players sans pick.
Gregory Alan Isakov doesn’t use a pick but instead uses the side of his thumb for a more mellow sound.
I wuz here. Thanks folks.
