The guitar is an instrument that everyone wants to learn, but it’s not easy! It takes a lot of practice and discipline. But what if there was a way to make sure you’re practicing the right things?
In this video, we’ll explore the science behind how our brains work, and show you some mindsets to help ensure you’re making progress on your guitar journey — even when you’ve had enough of plucking those strings for the day!

Excellent !!!!!
I really liked your show today and found your 5 books to be great. I like your approach, but do your lessons work for a 79 year old guy? I still have my smarts and not really handicapped. Looking for something for me to use, and like your story about so many, I have played guitar on and off for about 7 years and know all the notes on the neck, but I found that that knowledge has not helped me play and progress. Do you have lessons for me? Jerry
Jerry, I have enjoyed and benefited from Tony’s techniques. Highly recommend. I am 63 years old and want to learn new songs to help combat senior brain fog, etc. and forgetfulness, plus just really like to play and perform in our local saloon on Thursdays. And I am improving!! It’s fun. I am betting the lessons work for a 79 year old guy; they have helped a 63 year old gal. I am returning to my folk roots and having a blast.
I love the new information and look forward to more in depth reading. Now to apply the new knowledge.
Okay Tony, fess up. After watching episode 176, with no explanation from you, you need to tell us. Did you walk into a door? Did you fall on the floor laughing? I tried and tried to focus on what you were saying but all I could focus on was your nose.
So! What’s up with that?
Hey Tony, I have followed you since your 100th episode. Dennis from BC Canada. Claim the identity is what triggered me the most. How many of us can say I’m a guitarist vs I play a little bit of guitar to have a way of escaping the dreaded question. Well, what songs can you play? I know alot of riffs, and easy 3 chord songs if given the chord sheets, but not any in entirety by memory. I know when something sounds off, and I’ll get a tune in my head but playing it is another thing.
Thank You Tony. I’m a guitar geek, but most of all a guitarist.
Mindfully yours Dennis from British Columbia.
is that a Hodag cup? Big fan of the mythical character. Go Hodags!
Great Show Tony. The resonator sounds amazing! Let us know how it’s working for you please. Thanks for the video from Jon Gomm. Seems very interesting and I look forward to hearing him and Nick Harper
I wasn’t able to find the workshop you referred to in the video, the workshop that applies these concepts
Thank you so much for this video. This is the first one of yours that I have seen and I‘m very impressed. There‘s something for everyone here. I like your playful, small but decisive steps-with-variety approach. And I have bought four of the books (one I had already) because you really convinced me this is the way to go. Now I‘m thinking of joining TAC, you seem to have a great community going there.
Hey Tony,Levi, and Noah. Love the show. Hey I just wanted to put in a request for a St. Patrick’s day acoustic Tuesday show. I would love to learn about Irish luthiers and acoustic performers. I love the piece you did on Emerald guitars (I still have a strong desire to obtain one of those especially living in the southwest). Thanks for the entertainment and knowledge.
